Régi dolgok ha előkerülnek / Old stuff is coming out

Ez a takaró egyike azoknak a daraboknak, amiket kb 6-7 évvel ezelőtt készítettem. Akkoriban ismerkedtem meg a foltvarrással, és nagyon sok dologról még annyi fogalmam sem volt mint mostanában. Az egyetem után közvetlenül az USA-ba kerültem egy ösztöndíj keretében, és bár Baltimore-ban éltem két éven keresztül, akkoriban nem sok quilttel találkoztam. Pár egészen érdekes darabot egy olyan múzeumban láttam, ahol pszichiátriai kezeltek "munkaterápiás" foglalkozásokon készített munkáit mutatták be. Meg kell mondjam ezek között egészen különleges darabok is voltak.
Igazából nem is emlékszem, hogy mikor fogott meg a foltvarrás, az biztos, hogy amikor 2001-ben Iowaban voltam egy hónapig onnan már hoztam anyagokat. Ezekből varrtam egy takarónak a tetejét, ami egyébként teljesen kézzel készült. Majd ezt is megmutatom egyszer. Mivel ekkor még nem ismertem egy csomó dolgot, a mai napig nem fejeztem be teljesen.
Ezt követte ez a piros-sárga top, ami egy amerikai újságban közölt minta alapján készült. Ekkor vettem egyébként az első varrógépem, egy Tesco gazdaságos modellt. Mivel még nem igazán indult ekkoriban itthon a foltvarrás, mindenféle anyagot összeszedtem ezekhez a korai dababokhoz. Több közülük nem is 100% pamut, bár ebben a topban vannak igazi pw anyagok is Iowából. Amikor ez elkészült még mindig nem tudtam hogy kell összeállítani a quilteket, így a szekrény mélyére került ez a darab. Most pedig előástam. Erre valószínűleg az a mozgalom is motivált, amit elég sok blogon láttam: fejezzünk be rég elkezdett és a szekrények mélyén heverő dolgokat együtt. Ugyan én erre nem jelentkeztem, aminek a fő oka az, hogy időnként a munkám mellett nem marad egyáltalán időm és energiám a varrásra, így ritkán 'vállalok' határidős munkákat. Mindenesetre elővettem pár dolgot, és megpróbálom ezeket is befejezni és megmutogatni. Meglátjuk mire jutok ezekkel.

This top is one of the first pieces that I have ever made. It dates back to 6-7 years before, when I started to sew. Right after I finished the university I went to the US to work as a research scholar in an institution in Baltimore, where I lived for 2 years. Funny thing is that at that point somehow I dod not really get acquinted with quilting. I remember seeing a few pieces, but most of them I saw in a museum in Balto where all the displayed pieces were made by people who were treated in psychiatric institutions. I came back, and somehow I got to know and more importantly like patchwork. I made a top that was absolutely hand pieced, which is not finished to this date. I did not even own a sewing machine then, and more importantly I had no clue how to make what. Then I started to make this top. Patchwork was not as popular here in Hungary as nowdays, so I tried to get as much fabric as I can just could. Some of the ones I used for this top are not even 100% cotton, but also contains some nice real pw fabric I bought in a trip in Iowa. This top was pieced by a sewing machine I bought in a supermarket :) along with some bread and milk. Then it ended up on the bottom of my cupboard. Why? Well, because no blogs, no tutorials, no books here that I could get my hands on. Than I just remembered, and pulled out of the darkness. Why? Cause I read on some blogs about finishing up the UFOs this year. And even though I did not sign up to any of these, I felt inspired. So, here I am, with this long overdue project, and I will try to include it in my list of things to do.
